Funnily enough, the size of the ark was one of those things I just never questioned. I just assumed that if God encouraged Noah to build the ark, then he also blessed it with some miracle so that it always had enough space inside for as many animals as necessary. I assumed the reason Noah had to build such a huge ark wasn't to actually have enough space, but more as a test of faith from God.
